Human Gene ATP1B2 (ENST00000250111.9_3) from GENCODE V45lift37
Description: Homo sapiens ATPase Na+/K+ transporting subunit beta 2 (ATP1B2), transcript variant 1, mRNA. (from RefSeq NM_001678) RefSeq Summary (NM_001678): The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the family of Na+/K+ and H+/K+ ATPases beta chain proteins, and to the subfamily of Na+/K+ -ATPases. Na+/K+ -ATPase is an integral membrane protein responsible for establishing and maintaining the electrochemical gradients of Na and K ions across the plasma membrane. These gradients are essential for osmoregulation, for sodium-coupled transport of a variety of organic and inorganic molecules, and for electrical excitability of nerve and muscle. This enzyme is composed of two subunits, a large catalytic subunit (alpha) and a smaller glycoprotein subunit (beta). The beta subunit regulates, through assembly of alpha/beta heterodimers, the number of sodium pumps transported to the plasma membrane. The glycoprotein subunit of Na+/K+ -ATPase is encoded by multiple genes. This gene encodes a beta 2 subunit. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. ID:AT1B2_HUMAN DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Sodium/potassium-transporting ATPase subunit beta-2; AltName: Full=Adhesion molecule in glia; Short=AMOG; AltName: Full=Sodium/potassium-dependent ATPase subunit beta-2; FUNCTION: This is the non-catalytic component of the active enzyme, which catalyzes the hydrolysis of ATP coupled with the exchange of Na(+) and K(+) ions across the plasma membrane. The exact function of the beta-2 subunit is not known. FUNCTION: Mediates cell adhesion of neurons and astrocytes, and promotes neurite outgrowth. SUBUNIT: The sodium/potassium-transporting ATPase is composed of a catalytic alpha subunit, an auxiliary non-catalytic beta subunit and an additional regulatory subunit. Interacts with isoform 2 of BSG (By similarity). SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cell membrane; Single-pass type II membrane protein. DOMAIN: The C-terminal lobe folds into an immunoglobulin-like domain and mediates cell adhesion properties. SIMILARITY: Belongs to the X(+)/potassium ATPases subunit beta family.
The RNAfold program from the Vienna RNA Package is used to perform the secondary structure predictions and folding calculations. The estimated folding energy is in kcal/mol. The more negative the energy, the more secondary structure the RNA is likely to have.
